Hodge Podge

This is a combination of Gordie's great aunt Neita's recipe from Nova Scotia and versions found online. The idea is a jumble of all "new" veggies warmed with cream. Simple and satisfying and beautiful. Serve with bread or all by itself. Change the vegetables and quantities based on what you have fresh.

1 C each:
-green beans and/or peas, trimmed and snapped
-wax beans, trimmed and snapped
-carrots, chopped as needed or left whole if small/new enough
-turnip, chopped
2 C cubed new potatoes
6 T butter
1/2 C heavy cream
1/2 C milk
1 T flour
1/2 C water

Put vegetables in a large saucepan and add enough water to cover (peas could go in after other vegetables have cooked a while). Lightly salt the water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 1/2 hour till done. Add salt, pepper, butter, milk, and cream.

Mix together flour and the 1/2 cup water and add to soup. Cook a few more minutes to thicken. Serve hot.
